Kind of duck, genus Aix galericulata, 40 cm/16 in long. The drake's head has a long, erectile crest, green, purple and chestnut in colour, and one of the wing-feathers is expanded to form an orange 'sail'.

They were introduced to Britain from the Far East, and have established feral breeding populations in Surrey.
